Friday, 26th June 2026, Entebbe – Assistant Academic Registrar in charge of Examinations, Ms Olivia Kintu Nabulya, has been elected the new Chairperson of the Nkumba University Staff Association (NUSA), taking over leadership of the staff body for the next four years after emerging unopposed during the association’s Annual General Meeting held on Friday.
Ms Kintu was declared duly elected by the Staff Electoral Commissioner, Counsel Bashiri Kabakubya, after the close of the nomination process attracted only one candidate for each elective position. “Having followed all the due process, I now declare Olivia Kintu Nabulya as the duly elected Chairperson of the Nkumba University Staff Association,” Counsel Kabakubya announced, noting that the electoral committee had widely circulated nomination forms and carried out the required verification before confirming the unopposed candidates.
Ms Kintu will be deputized by Mr Stanley Samuel Ssekamaanya, while Mr Fred Katambala assumes the position of Treasurer and Ms Angela Kyokutamba becomes Secretary. Other members elected to the executive include Mr Isaac Kawesi and Mr Ziwa Bashiri, among others.
She succeeds Dr Sulaiman Bbosa, who relinquishes the association leadership following his appointment as Nkumba University’s Deputy Vice Chancellor.
Addressing staff shortly after the handover, Dr Bbosa congratulated the incoming executive and urged them to build on the achievements registered over the past four years. “I welcome the new leadership and encourage you to pick up from where we have left off. Continue strengthening the association and serving our institution with commitment and vision,” he said.
Reflecting on the university’s academic progress, Dr Bbosa challenged members of staff to intensify research output, describing scholarly publication as central to academic excellence. “Teaching and learning have greatly improved, but we can do much better in research. Every academic member of staff should strive to publish annually because research is one of the key measures of our performance as a university,” he said.
He also called on staff to continue pursuing higher academic qualifications, particularly doctoral studies, saying the university’s future competitiveness depends on a highly qualified workforce. “I will continue encouraging colleagues to complete their PhDs because investing in our academic qualifications strengthens both the individual and the institution,” he added.
Dr Bbosa further appealed for improved customer care, reminding staff that students remain the university’s primary clients whose experience directly shapes the institution’s reputation. “Our brand has grown significantly over the years, but every member of staff has a responsibility to protect and promote that image through excellent customer service and professionalism,” he said.
He equally urged departments to embrace collaboration, international partnerships, and innovation, noting that the university’s expanding global linkages continue to create opportunities for staff development, curriculum enhancement, and research.
The Staff Association has, over the years, served as a platform for promoting staff welfare, professional development, and constructive engagement between employees and the university administration.
The newly elected executive is expected to steer the association over the next four years, focusing on advancing staff interests while supporting the university’s strategic agenda of academic excellence, research productivity, and improved service delivery.
