Nkumba University, 26th June 2026 – Nkumba University management has called on staff to strengthen teamwork, embrace innovation, and deepen their commitment to quality teaching, research, and community engagement as the institution positions itself for ambitious growth in the coming years.
The call was made during the Nkumba University Staff Association (NUSA) Annual General Meeting held on Friday, 26th June 2026, at the Mpanga Library, where management reaffirmed its commitment to improving staff welfare while rallying staff behind the university’s strategic vision.
Addressing the meeting, the University Secretary, Mr Francis Ssengendo, said management remains committed to enhancing staff welfare through improved healthcare support, bereavement assistance, professional development and education sponsorships. “We continue to invest in staff welfare because a motivated workforce is the backbone of a successful university. We encourage staff to communicate their challenges so that management can provide the necessary support,” Mr Ssengendo said.
He noted that the university would sustain its support for staff through the SACCO, bereavement assistance, capacity-building programmes and tuition support for employees pursuing postgraduate studies.
Mr Ssengendo added that the institution would continue offering tuition discounts for eligible staff, while also expanding opportunities for staff to attend regional and international training programmes.
Beyond welfare, he highlighted several infrastructure projects aimed at supporting the university’s long-term growth, including a new classroom block at Kyegegwa Campus and the planned construction of additional student hostels to address accommodation shortages.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Jude Lubega lauded staff for their dedication, describing their efforts as the driving force behind the university’s continued transformation. “Your hard work in our lecture rooms, skills laboratories, and offices remains the foundation of our university’s success. As we push forward, our collective commitment will define our growth and global impact,” Prof Lubega said.
He urged staff to remain focused on delivering quality teaching, strengthening customer care, increasing research output, and actively marketing the university. “Our students remain our priority. Every member of staff is an ambassador of Nkumba University, and every interaction with students, parents, and visitors shapes our reputation,” he said.
Prof Lubega also encouraged academic staff to meet their research publication targets, strengthen collaboration across departments, and actively participate in the university SACCO to improve their financial well-being.
He further announced that every Friday would continue to be observed as the university’s corporate branding day, urging staff to wear branded attire as a demonstration of institutional pride and unity.
The Vice Chancellor also rallied the university community to support Nkumba University’s women’s football team ahead of the forthcoming FASU All Africa University Games, saying the team would be representing both the institution and the country on the continental stage. “They are carrying our brand, our values, and our excellence beyond our borders. Let us rally behind them and wish them success,” he said.
Outgoing NUSA Chairperson and Deputy Vice Chancellor Dr Sulaiman Bbosa thanked staff and management for the cooperation he received during his tenure, saying collective effort had enabled the university to register significant institutional progress.
