National Resistance Movement’s Flag bearer in the forth coming Nkumba University Guild elections, Arthur Andwineho says he has devised means to loby for Students and the University from his external sources.
Arthur said this during a one-on-one interview with our reporter at the University’s Guild cafe yesterday.
The calm, soft spoken but articulate BBA student revealed that he spent a better part of his so far two year stay at the University applying the SWOT analysis to identify the strength, weaknesses, opportunities and threats within the University and has devised means to set up strategies for neutralizing the threats and mitigating weaknesses.
Arthur contends that he will dwell on the strengths to improve the affairs at the Entebbe based higher institution of learning and capitalize on the opportunities to deliver if elected.
“I know our problem as an institution, we are still battling the financial turmoil post COVID-19. As a private institution, we entirely rely on students but because the numbers reduced as a post COVID predicament, funding has become inadequate. Therefore, as a leader, I am looking at bringing partners on board but most importantly help improve the University’s image so that we attract numbers.” Said Artuer.
“I also plan to revamp the guild resource center with Wi-Fi, avail both hard and soft copies of the guild constitution, University Anthem and other documents sought to be vital, information must be not only free but also accessible,” he added.
Arthur further revealed that he joined Nkumba University in 2021 but deliberately chose not to take up any leadership position in order to prepare himself for guild presidency.
He however argues that it is wrong for Guild leaders to entirely rely on University funding, a narrative he intends to change, “It is wrong to rely only on funding from the University, I don’t plan to be a leader who only organises cultural gallas, Mr and Mrs Nkumba, Bazaars but will have a team handling that. My focus is going to be on lobbying for the students and the University from my out side sources ,”
The second year Business administration student scoffed at his political nemesis; Amon Muhwezi and Imran Kigongo for tainting the guild leadership image by participating in the vetting process that ushered in the electoral commissioners, a thing he says portrayed the two as outlawed extremists.
“It was a clear conflict of interest, in many instances politicians use such moments to fix election results. The two had posters all over, they knew very well that participating in the process would be compromising but as law students, they interpreted the Guild constitution to favour themselves, it was totally wrong.”
A section of NRM members are still divided on who to support following Amon Muhwezi adamant move to frustrate NRM’s success. Amon lost to Arthur in the NRM primaries but returned to the race as an independent candidate.
NRM’s Buyongo Joseph, adduced that, “Even though Amon is on the ballot paper, Arthur is a better option, he is a true leader, approachable, calm and down to earth. I believe he will be that leader that we have all been waiting for,”
Author thwarted claims that if elected, he will serve only those that are supporting him.
“I know the aftermath of elections will be marred with bitterness and political turbulence. I intend to bridge the gaps, reconcile parties and build a cabinet that will serve all students. Therefore, I appeal to all students to treat such claims with the contempt it deserves. Come Election Day, go exercise your right and cast that vote, voting for me will be an automatic vote for a vibrant and successful Nkumba University.”
Nkumba university heads to the polls on 29th October 2022 in the events that will see the winner sworn in as Nkumba university’s 27th Guild president taking over from Lawrence Mashable.
