Nkumba University and Al Azhar University in Indonesia solidified their commitment to fostering academic collaborations through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed by Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Jude Lubega on behalf of Nkumba University, and Dr. Hidayat Yorianta Sasaerila representing Indonesia based Al Azhar University.
The signing of the MoU took place yesterday, 6th February 2024 at the Vice Chancellor’s office.
Speaking shortly after appending his signature, Dr. Hidayat who also serves as the Dean-Faculty of Science at Al Azhar University highlighted the shared characteristics between the two private institutions. “Besides being private institutions, we both have an interest in research on Natural resources, this will boost our collaborative efforts.” said Dr. Hidayat.
He further expressed optimism that the MoU would pave the way for meaningful research collaborations, particularly in addressing challenges related to natural resources.

Professor Jude Lubega, acknowledging efforts at the School of Sciences led by the Dean, Dr. Alex Barakagira, expressed his appreciation for the school’s proactive approach to advancing the university’s agenda.
He commended the initiative, noting that, “I am ready to push anything that is academically enriching and viable research-wise, we welcome this initiative.”
The MoU outlines plans for study exchange programs, training, and capacity building for academic instructors, as well as collaborative research involving both staff and students. The focus of these collaborations will be on the critical field of natural resources.
