Impressed by the progress, PDG Herzog thanked the University management for the work well -done so far emphasizing that the institute will benefit not only Nkumba University or Uganda but the entire African continent. “Let’s push this worldwide,” he urged.

The proposed institute will be established under the School of Science at Nkumba University, making it the first of its kind in Africa and the second in the world.

During the inspection, Past District Governor Urs Herzog was accompanied Past President Annie Ninyesiga from the Rotary Club of Bwebajja, and several officials from Nkumba University. The university officials included Professor Francis Kasekende, the University Secretary; Madam Martha Luyirika, the Deputy University Secretary; Mr. Eddy Kintu, the Director of Planning and Infrastructure; Dr. Alex Barakagira, the Dean at the School of Sciences; and Madam Amelia Nabukonde, the Head of Department at the School.

While addressing the 26th congregation of Nkumba University, Chancellor Emmanuel Katongole, noted that the institute will be a game-changer in addressing WASH challenges in Africa. “In a few months, we will see the birth of another milestone that will change Africa in the areas of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene,” he said.

WASH is an acronym that refers to the global development issues of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene. Due to their interdependent nature, these three core issues are grouped together to represent a growing sector, representing the current global crisis.

This is among many collaborations sought to fuel the University’s mission that seeks to provide an environment that enables the cultivation of competence, Confidence, Creativity, and Character in academic, professional, and societal well-being.
