Nkumba University Guild Aspirant Katende Muhammad has underscored the importance of essential leadership competencies during a keynote address at the Africa Youth Leadership Forum (AYLF) Nkumba University Chapter’s Weekly Assembly, held at the University’s TS1 building on Wednesday, 9th April, 2025.
As a keynote, Katende highlighted honesty, integrity, consistency, and loyalty as fundamental traits, describing loyalty as a leader’s obligation to safeguard their organization’s interests.
The AYLF has recently hosted other Guild Presidential contenders, Mawanda Derick and Patrick Kamoga, as part of its mission to foster “a transformed leadership culture in Africa.” The forum seeks to emulate the leadership qualities, values, and principles exemplified by Jesus Christ of Nazareth and some of history’s most influential leaders, aiming to nurture a new generation of African leaders.
Katende also emphasized clarity of direction, intelligence, and learning ability as critical leadership competencies, stating that “leaders are bridges that connect people to the future.”
Enoch Kisakye, the AYLF coordinator, reinforced the need for leaders to be highly principled and encouraged members to attend weekly assemblies for further leadership insights. Esther Asasira, the AYLF Secretary, echoed these sentiments, pledging the organization’s continued commitment to instilling leadership qualities in students to cultivate effective leadership at all levels.
