Despite coming close to equalizing, NUASA captain Oyat Nelson was denied by Prince Bismarck’s impressive 79th-minute save. The match was a physical encounter, with Nkumba’s versatile midfielder Isaac Olaa Yuggu limping off in the 50th minute.

“We’re happy for the unity and togetherness, plus the spirit of brotherhood this match has accelerated in us,” said Oyat Nelson, the “Kodi Pa Lyeci” (NUASA) FC Captain, despite the loss.

Akena Amos Thomson, the Bugema Acholi South Sudanese Interim Coach, praised both teams for their efforts. “They put up a strong opposition, though we managed to win the match 1-0. I want to thank both teams for the hard work, because it wasn’t an easy game.”

The friendly match is part of an ongoing effort to strengthen ties between the two associations. Langoya Alfred, NUASA President, revealed that the match aimed to promote unity and cohesion between the two groups. “The trip to Bugema University was also a morale booster towards our preparations for Nkumba University’s Cultural Gala,” he added.

The two associations have agreed to host the return match in August 2025 at Nkumba University. Susan Angeyo, Bugema University South Sudanese Acholi Students’ Sports and Culture Minister, thanked NUASA for honoring the fixture and encouraged more meetings of the kind. Orach David Juma Alana, former President of the Union of South Sudanese Acholi Students in Uganda, also emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration among Acholi students.
