Elder Tom began by discussing the origin of sin, referencing Genesis 3: 1-7, where the first two people were tempted and ended up sinning. He emphasized that without sin, there would be no need for salvation. The congregation was fully engaged, scribbling down details of the sermon.

The Elder then transitioned to the New Testament, drawing parallels between people’s disloyalty and inconsiderate nature to that of Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Jesus (Matthew 26:47). He further built his narrative, referencing Romans 8:11 and the events leading up to Jesus’ crucifixion.

“Now, because many of us are greedy for greater things and worldly pleasures, we are nothing different from Judas Iscariot,” Elder Tom said, making a crucial point about the human condition. He also referenced the “Passion of Christ” movie, getting the congregation to reflect on the brutal treatment Jesus endured.

The Elder concluded the sermon by summarizing the journey of sin, salvation, and resurrection, emphasizing the importance of honouring Easter beyond just eating food. “It’s not just about food, it’s about repenting and attending church to show gratitude to the creator,” he said.

The sermon was delivered in both Luganda and English, ensuring that the congregation fully understood the message. The Elder’s powerful words left a lasting impact on the audience, encouraging them to reflect on the true meaning of Easter.
