Nkumba University has appointed historian and political analyst, Dr John Paul Kasujja, as the new Dean at the School of Education, ushering in a fresh chapter of leadership at one of the institution’s most vibrant academic units.
Dr Kasujja replaces Dr Esther Namugumya, whose five-year tenure ended mid-year. Her leadership, according to the University, played a pivotal role in steering the School through unprecedented global disruptions brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
While announcing the appointment, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Jude Lubega, paid glowing tribute to Dr Namugumya. “Dr Namugumya offered outstanding leadership, especially during a time when the world was engulfed by Covid-19, which heavily hampered the flow of academic activities globally,” he said.
He welcomed the new Dean, reminding him of the task ahead. “Dr Kasujja, congratulations. You are taking office at a very critical time. You will be held accountable for all affairs of the School of Education. Please work closely with your team to deliver efficiently,” he said.
In his acceptance speech, Dr Kasujja expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him by the University’s top leadership.“I want to express my sincere gratitude to the Vice Chancellor, the University Secretary, and the entire management team for their trust and confidence in my abilities to lead this remarkable School,” he said.
He also saluted his predecessor for her commitment and service. “I want to thank Dr Namugumya for her dedicated service and valuable contribution to the School during her five-year tenure,” he noted.
Dr Kasujja said his stewardship will be guided by the School’s global mission of producing competent graduates capable of navigating the complexities of the modern world. His immediate priorities, he added, will include fostering a culture grounded in professionalism, integrity, and intellectual growth, while also developing new programs aligned with evolving community and national needs.
“I cannot achieve this alone. We need all hands on deck. I call on every member of this community to share their thoughtful ideas and work hand in hand with me as we embark on this new chapter,” he said.
“I am confident that with our collective dedication and shared commitment to educational excellence, we will achieve great things and make a lasting impact on education in this country.”
