“We are living in an era of AI, and as youth leaders, you ought to be well conversant with it. The future depends on AI, so you have to move fast to keep up,” Prof. Lubega said.

He encouraged the students to unlock the power of AI, cautioning that simply knowing ChatGPT is not enough.

Prof. Lubega, an experienced ICT4D consultant with over 25 years of experience in the education sector, highlighted the benefits of AI in personalized learning, curriculum planning, and communication assistance.

He cited examples of AI-powered tools like ChatGPT for Gmail, which can help youth leaders communicate more effectively and craft articulate emails.

The professor challenged the students to think critically about AI responses and to develop the skills to work with AI.

As a renowned expert in ICT4D, Prof. Lubega has supervised numerous PhD, Master’s, and Bachelor’s students and has published over 80 papers in journals and conferences.

His presentation emphasized the importance of embracing AI in leadership and encouraged the student leaders to take advantage of the opportunities AI presents.

Organized by the National Patriotism Secretariat Corps-Uganda, the Higher Institutions of Learning student leaders patriotism training commenced on 3rd January 2025 at Nkumba University and is expected to come to a close on the 18th of January 2025 with President Museveni presiding over the pass-out.

The Commissioner National Patriotism Secretariat Corps, Hellen Seku says, the training seeks to equip student leaders with values and norms of Patriotism in students and youth of Uganda in order to develop resourceful, responsible, disciplined and resilient citizens who are loyal and ready to defend and transform Uganda.
