Nkumba University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jude T. Lubega, has urged university students to be cautious about their digital behavior, warning that reckless social media activity could jeopardize future diplomatic and professional aspirations.
Speaking at the Nkumba University Diplomatic Dinner held at Protea Hotel, Entebbe, on Saturday, 8th November 2025, Prof. Lubega reminded students that in today’s interconnected world, online presence is increasingly being used as a measure of character and professionalism by potential employers and international organizations. “Your digital profile is your CV to potential employers out there. Stake your youthful energy carefully, because in the future, some reckless social media activity could haunt your diplomatic career,” Prof. Lubega cautioned.
He emphasized that as the world becomes more digitalized, the line between personal and professional lives continues to blur, urging young people to exercise restraint and maturity when engaging online.
Prof. Lubega further encouraged students to continue seeking knowledge, build strong networks, and use technology as a tool for empowerment rather than destruction. “The world is watching what you post, how you think, and what you stand for. Build a legacy that speaks for you long before you enter the diplomatic arena,” he advised.
The dinner, held under the theme “Youth Diplomacy: Shaping the Future of Global Engagements,” brought together students, diplomats, and policy experts to discuss the role of youth in international relations and global governance.
In her keynote address, Dr. Sarah Bireete, the Executive Director at the Center for Constitutional Governance, challenged the youth to embrace global citizenship and position themselves as solution-driven leaders in global spaces. “The future belongs to those who are ready to engage, innovate, and represent their nations with integrity and purpose. Diplomacy today goes beyond boardrooms; it starts with how we communicate, collaborate, and carry ourselves,” Dr. Bireete remarked.
She commended Nkumba University for nurturing globally minded graduates through initiatives like the Diplomatic Dinner, noting that such platforms inspire students to engage in international affairs and public service.
The event also featured interactive sessions where students shared their perspectives on digital diplomacy, leadership, and the importance of maintaining ethical conduct both online and offline.
The diplomatic dinner, organized by Nkumba University School of Social Sciences, brought together students, key players in global security, and diplomats to discuss the evolving role of youth in international relations and the future of global cooperation.
