Second Year Law student, Kamara Edwin, has formally declared his intentions to contest for the Nkumba University Law Society presidency, 2026-2027.
The announcement was made during a press conference held at the university’s law school on 31st October 2025 at around 2:00 pm.
While addressing members of the press, Kamara explained why he believes he is the right candidate for the position. “We found it valid to declare our intentions because we believe I am the most competent candidate that the students will ever find for this position,” he said.
Kamara’s manifesto, he said, is founded on three principles aimed at transforming the law society. The first, he explained, is ensuring a more conducive learning environment for students. “We plan to provide extra compound seats for students to conduct their discussions, ensure accessible internet connections and online resources such as an e-library, and mobilize sufficient projectors and projector screens for class use. We are now in an era of computer-aided learning, and the law society must keep up with the pace,” Kamara said.
The second principle focuses on developing moot court activities. According to Kamara, the plan is to revive law firm moots within the society and introduce regular inter-university moot competitions to sharpen students’ litigation skills.
In his third pillar, Kamara seeks to widen the research base by fostering collaboration among law societies through a program he has initiated called the “Inter-University Law Societies Brotherhood Program.” Kamara said this initiative will encourage the sharing of academic materials and research, as well as promote friendship and cooperation through joint academic and sports activities.
The press conference, which lasted approximately 30 minutes, marked the official launch of Kamara’s campaign for the upcoming elections. He urged fellow students to support his vision, promising a law society that is innovative, research-driven, and student-focused.
“I believe this is the right time for fresh leadership that will create opportunities for academic growth, practical experience, and stronger bonds among law students,” Kamara said in closing.
Nkumba University Law Society is renowned for its dynamic and influential student leadership. Incumbent President Moses Kyobe noted that the number of students contesting for the society’s top position is expected to increase this year, with five candidates already expressing interest. Kyobe, however, wished all aspirants well, emphasizing the importance of a fair and transparent election. The elections are slated to take place early next year.
