The orientation commenced on Monday, 9th September 2024, featuring addresses from key university officials followed by min-university tours.

Speaking on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, University Secretary Prof. Francis Kasekende welcomed the new students and assured them of an academically enabling environment. “Congratulations on your admission to Nkumba University. We are thrilled to have you join us. As our norm, we will provide you with an environment that cultivates competence, confidence, creativity, and high moral character,” he stated.

Nkumba University Academic Registrar, Dr. Frank Pio Kiyingi, urged students to adhere to the guidelines as stipulated in their student code of conduct manual and stressed the significance of regular lecture attendance. “Following the guidelines and attending lectures regularly are crucial for attaining top academic honors,” he said. He also elaborated on the university’s grading framework, spanning from A to D, and encouraged Hotel Management students to learn German, citing attractive opportunities.

The University Librarian, Madam Florence Ssebaale, emphasized the importance of utilizing the library’s resources. “If you come to the library, be intentional. Identify resources that suit your demands, and where there are problems, ask the library assistants for guidance. Our library is fully stocked with books and e-services to meet your academic needs,” she advised.

University Accountant Malunda Vincent also addressed the students, highlighting the importance of financial responsibility and planning.

Dr. Anne Abaho, the Dean – School of Social Sciences petitioned students to set realistic academic goals. “There will be times when you will be overwhelmed with tasks, I appeal to you, set goals and avoid situations where you find yourself in a fix.”

Dr. Ester Namugumya, Dean of the School of Education, advised students to stay focused and avoid diversionary practices. “We owe you an environment that will propel your academic goals. Stay focused and avoid anything that may deter you from attaining your academic ambitions,” she said.

University Secretary, Prof. Francis Kasekende later launched the Nkumba University Annual Trade Bazaar, lauding the Guild Government for organizing the event. The Trade Bazaar, which aims to help new students easily access essential start-up merchandise started on Monday, 5th August 2024 and closed on Sunday, 18th August 2024.
