Speaking shortly after the awards ceremony, Gore Ruvimbo thanked her entire crew channeling more credit to the producer of the radio magazine show that bolstered her chances of winning the award, ” It is always team work, if it wasn’t for you guys, I don’t think I would have won this. To everyone who believed me, thank you, we made it.”

The Media Challenge fellow, Meeme Leticia Luwenze noted that “The media Challenge fellowship has fine tuned me to practical Journalism, the skills I have acquired are the kind we may never find in schools. I want to implore all Journalism students to think of enrolling for this fellowship.”

Media Challenge initiative CEO, Mr. Abbas Mpindi lauded all the 5th cohort fellows for their perseverance, “We know it has not been easy, we started with 26 fellows, today, it is only 22 of you graduating, it was tedious, tiresome and demanding but you pushed on, thank you for your perseverance and congratulations,”

He further thanked all partner Universities for allowing Media Challenge initiative to shape budding journalists, “To all Universities that have opened the door for us, thank you very much. You opened gates for us to help build competencies among young journalists and we have certainly delivered over the years.”

“To the award winners, shine on, it is your moment. You deserve it because you put in more and out matched others, may this be your new journey to more wins, once again congratulation.

The awards ceremony saw Kampala International University bagging 8 awards with Makerere University garnering 6. The Kabalagala based Cavendish University, St Lawrence University, UMCAT School of Journalism and Mass media, Makerere Business Institute were among institutions that walked away with awards.

12 Universities and Institutes participated in this year’s Inter-University Media Challenge which is the Media Challenge Initiative’s strategic vision of building the next generation of journalists who are not only multi skilled but also critical participants as change agents in changing their communities and the negative African narrative.

The awards are in recognition of emerging talent in journalism. These are given to the best participants in different categories of the Inter-institutional media Challenge. The competition happens every year.
