Col. Emmy Katabazi, Deputy Director General of the Internal Security Organisation (ISO), has challenged student leaders to pursue knowledge daily, warning that a night without learning leaves one “empty”.
Addressing student leaders undergoing a 14-day patriotism training program at Nkumba University, Col. Katabazi emphasized the importance of rejecting politics of deceit, class, and tribalism. “We are all equal, with no distinction in blood groups between Bakiga, Acholi, or any other tribe; instead, we are all Ugandans,” he said.
Col. Katabazi expressed dismay at student leaders who prioritize international football clubs over Uganda’s national team, the Cranes. “Such behavior indicates social disconnection,” he noted, urging the students to prioritize patriotism and support local initiatives. To lead effectively, Col. Katabazi stressed the need for student leaders to stay informed, think critically, and make informed decisions that benefit Uganda.

He encouraged them to emulate President Museveni’s example, who as a Senior Six student, openly opposed nomadic pastoralism for its hindrance to economic progress in Ankole.
