Uganda is mourning the loss of Hon. Onapito Ekomoloit, a veteran journalist and former Member of Parliament for Amuria County, who breathed his last this morning. The news was first announced by NRM’s Vice Chairperson Eastern, Mike Mukula.

“On behalf of the Teso community and the country at large, I announce with deep sadness and pain the demise of our brother Hon. ONAPITO OKOMOLOIT (RIP).” Mukula announced via Twitter.

Ekomoloit had a distinguished career, serving as President Museveni’s Press Secretary and holding various leadership positions, including Legal and Corporate Affairs Director and Board Chair at Nile Breweries.

He was also a university lecturer and member of several company boards, including the MTN Uganda Foundation Board of Trustees.

Tributes have poured in from colleagues and friends, including Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among, who described Ekomoloit as “a journalist of excellence”. She praised his “honest and humble contributions” to Uganda.

The cause of Ekomoloit’s death has not been disclosed yet but his passing has been described by many as a significant loss to Uganda’s journalism and political communities.
