The residents of Kabale village in Abaita Ababiri, Katabi Town Council, Wakiso District, gathered early at the designated polling center near St. Jude Catholic Church on May 6, 2025, to cast their votes and choose their local leaders in the Local Council 1 elections.
The elections, conducted through a traditional lining up method, proceeded peacefully without violence, with electoral commission officials overseeing the process to ensure adherence to electoral guidelines and maintaining order throughout the exercise.
After the votes were counted, Mr. Karunga Bosco was announced as the winner of the elections. Overjoyed by the outcome, Bosco thanked the community for their overwhelming support.
In his victory speech, Bosco promised development and change to the community, vowing to provide the services needed. “We will work tirelessly to bring progress to our community,” he said.
“I am overwhelmed by the large numbers that turned up to stand behind me, and I don’t know how to thank you for not betraying me,” the new elect said with a beaming smile.
During the event, residents were given the opportunity to raise their concerns. Mr. Nsubuga God, a resident of Kabale A, took the chance to advise the youth to stop overconsumption of alcohol and focus on their future.
“Stop overconsumption of alcohol and think about the future,” Nsubuga urged. He expressed concern that the youth’s behavior was causing insecurity and theft in the community, as they spent their time and money in bars instead of working towards their goals.
To drive his point home, Nsubuga even composed a song that carried the advice he had given to the youth.
The community’s new leader, Bosco, is expected to work with the residents to address their concerns and bring development to the area. The peaceful elections marked a significant event in local governance, and the community is hopeful for a brighter future under their new leadership.
The elections follows the death of the area LC 1 Chairperson, Grace Nabigala who succumbed to cancer last year.
