List of Universities Accredited to Teach Law in Uganda – Student Hub Uganda

The accreditation, announced on May 27th, 2024, follows a rigorous evaluation process to ensure that these institutions meet the council’s pre-qualification demands. The list includes top universities such as Makerere University, Kampala International University, and Uganda Christian University.

According to the Law Council, chaired by George Omunyokol, this accreditation is crucial for upholding the integrity of the legal profession in Uganda. “We must ensure that graduates from these institutions are well-prepared with the necessary skills to practice law,” Omunyokol emphasized.

The Law Council’s regulatory functions concerning the legal profession are stipulated in the Advocates (Amendment) Act 2002 of Uganda, Section 3(a), while the National Council for Higher Education permits the council to oversee legal education under Section 4(1) of the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act, 2001.

The accredited universities include; Nkumba University, Makerere University, Kampala, Kampala International University, Kampala, Uganda Christian University, Mukono, Uganda Pentecostal University, Fort Portal, Islamic University in Uganda, Mbale, Islamic University in Uganda, Kibuli, Kampala, Bishop Stuart University, Mbarara, King Ceasor University, Kampala, Cavendish University, Kampala, Gulu University, Gulu, International University in East Africa, Kampala, Islamic University in Uganda, Kaboja, Kampala and Uganda Martyrs University, Nkozi.
