Rtd.Major. Alfred Kamusaala, a senior lecturer at the National Leadership Institute in Kyankwanzi, has emphasized the importance of student leaders understanding society and its surroundings to become informed and patriotic leaders.

“For you to understand society, it is always better to look at the society and the surroundings,” Rtd.Maj. Kamusaala said during a lecture at the ongoing Higher Institutions of Learning student leaders’ patriotism training at Nkumba University.

Rtd.Maj. Alfred Kamusaala defined political economy as the study of laws governing societal development. He encouraged student leaders to study these laws to create the reality they desire. “It is our duty as human beings to study the laws so that we can create the reality that we want,” he said.

The senior lecturer outlined three key attributes that distinguish humans: articulate speech, consciousness, and labor. He noted that for a person to survive in society, they must struggle against societal and human challenges.

Rtd.Maj. Alfred Kamusaala emphasized the need for student leaders to acquire knowledge and skills to navigate these challenges. He encouraged them to be mindful of the tools they use, as these determine the level of development and production achieved by society.

The training, which started on January 3, 2025, aims to equip student leaders with skills and knowledge necessary to become informed and patriotic leaders. The pass-out ceremony will be presided over by President Yoweri Museveni on January 17, 2025.
