Nkumba University’s football team-The Beach boys on Monday recieved a boost following a donation worth approximately 500,000 UGX in form of training kits from Kigundu George, as they prepare for the 11th edition of the Pepsi University Football league.
Kigundu, a Uganda Civil Aviation Authority staff who is also a weekend student pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations and Diplomacy at Nkumba University said, he finds pleasure in supporting his very own.
“I am a football lover and it is gratifying to support my University’s football team.”
He narrated that there are normally 11 players, ” we are the 12th player, the 11 rely on us not only for moral boosting but also our ablity to respond to their challenges through donations likes these.”
Kigundu further observed that there is need for everyone to get involved in the sport through acts of kindness.
“There is need for us to get involved, I learnt of the need from my lecturer Mr. Katambala Fred then engaged my other colleagues, Dancun Kamuntu and Ssenyonga Steven who gave us cones and I decided to buy bibs because football is my main stream.” Said Kigundu.
“Even before this, after being elected a member of Parliament-Kampala campus, I pledged a set of jerseys which a delivered already.” He added
Kigundu implored fellow students and well wishers to combine efforts in motivating the team as the University league resumption closes-in.
Beach boy main man, Captain John Kennedy Ssewankambo louded Kigundu for his thoughtfulness, ” with this kind of support, we are certain it will motivate the team to do even better than last season, I thank Mr. Kigundu George and his colleagues for his relentless donation.”
The 2023 Pepsi University Football league was officially launched on Thursday 23rd February 2023 during a press briefing at the Kati Kati Restaurant in Lugogo. The edition was to kick off on 7th March at the home of the reigning champions- Uganda Martyrs University but got hiccups with an indefinite postponement however, revelations about groupings still stand.
The 11th edition will see a total of 24 teams tussle it out for the most prestigious University Football title.
Kampala International University will be returning to the folds as ISBAT University makes debut.
The 24 Universities were tied into six groups, Nkumba University falls in group E together with Gulu University, St Lawrence University and the International University of East Africa.

The Entebbe based Nkumba University missed chance by-whiskers to feature in the semi-finals last season following a controversial away loss against Uganda Christian University in Mukono.
With donations like these, there is absolute belief that the team will do way better to break the deadlock.
