Fresh from their triumph at the 2026 International Women’s Day Inter-University Championship, Nkumba University Ladies Football Team will fly Uganda’s flag at the forthcoming All Africa University Games scheduled for August 9th – 16th, 2026, in Cairo, Egypt.
Popularly known as the Beach Girls, the Entebbe-based side has intensified preparations for the prestigious continental event organized annually by the Federation of African University Sports (FASU), which brings together top-performing university teams from across the continent.
The Beach Girls earned the right to represent Uganda after emerging champions of the 2026 International Women’s Day Inter-University Championship, adding another accolade to their steadily growing trophy cabinet.

Nkumba University’s Sports Tutor, Joseph Muyiira, believes the team deserved the opportunity and insists the focus is now on delivering success on the continental stage. “We earned this opportunity because the girls put in every effort throughout the campaign,” Muyiira noted.
“The task ahead is to prepare them for the best possible performance. Our goal is to go to Cairo and return as champions. If we achieve that, it will present another opportunity to represent Africa at the World University Games that will be held in Asia early next year,” he added.
Muyiira further explained the significance of winning the continental title. “The beauty with this competition is that the International University Sports Federation takes full responsibility for the champions from every continent, covering air tickets, participation fees, and allowances throughout the duration of the global event,” he explained.
Deputy Team Captain Jolly Kobusinge, who also represents Uganda at national team level, says the players understand the magnitude of the assignment. “We know what it means to compete at continental level, and we are doing everything possible in our preparations. We intend to make Uganda proud, and we pray that everything works out in our favour,” Kobusinge stated.
