Shortly after the official launch, Tayebwa was treated to an elaborate tour of the exhibition stalls, accompanied by Prof. Mary Okwakol, the Director National Council for Higher Education (NCHE).

The Deputy Speaker was impressed by the innovative AI projects showcased by computer science students from Nkumba University’s School of Computing and Informatics.

“These students have demonstrated exceptional talent and creativity in developing solutions that can transform our education sector and drive national growth,” Tayebwa said.

Tayebwa emphasized the need for higher institutions of learning to integrate AI into their curriculum, urging them to work collaboratively in making education more affordable while also leveraging blockchain technology for better management.

“I urge you to use AI responsibly and innovatively to improve the quality of education and make it more accessible to all Ugandans,” Tayebwa added.

The 3-day event commenced on Thursday 27th March 2025 under the theme “Strategies, Challenges and Best Practices for Artificial Intelligence Integration in Higher Education.”

Close to 50 higher institutions of learning have participated in this year’s exhibition reaching nearly 10,000 high school students.

Dr. Bbosa Sulaiman, Director at Nkumba University Kampala Campus who also doubles as the marketing lead highlighted the significance of this year’s theme, “This year’s theme is well-positioned to help institutions pause and reflect on how the education sector is evolving and thus rethink how best to harness technology in teaching and learning,” Dr. Sulaiman said.

Dr. Norah M, Chairperson of the organizing committee, commended the participating institutions and encouraged the general public to be on the lookout for the next exhibition.

The annual Higher Education Exhibition provides a platform for secondary school students and those waiting to join universities to explore various institutions and make informed decisions about their academic journey.
