As thousands of Senior Six candidates across the country prepare to make one of the most important decisions of their academic journey, Nkumba University has intensified its schools outreach campaign, taking career guidance and information on scholarships and bursaries to learners in Kabaale District.
Today, Monday 6th July 2026, the team visited Muhanga Progressive Secondary School, Rukinda Secondary School, Kihanga Secondary School, St. Aloysius Girls School and Giant Secondary School, where they engaged mainly Advanced Level students on career planning, university admission requirements and emerging opportunities in Uganda’s evolving labour market.
With many learners grappling with uncertainty over career choices after secondary education, the outreach focused on helping students align their academic strengths, interests and subject combinations with professions that are increasingly shaped by technology, innovation and industry demands.
Speaking during the engagements, members of the marketing team encouraged students to make informed academic decisions based on both passion and market realities rather than public perception. “The world of work is changing rapidly, and students must prepare for careers that are relevant to the demands of today’s economy. Choosing the right programme begins with understanding your strengths, interests and the opportunities available,” Mike Ndiwalana, one of the team members told students during the interactive sessions.
The outreach also highlighted Nkumba University’s efforts in making higher education more accessible through affordable tuition, scholarship opportunities and bursaries available to eligible students. The team further shared information on the University’s internship programmes, industry linkages and graduate employment support initiatives designed to ease the transition from university to the workplace.
The Kabaale engagement forms part of Nkumba University’s nationwide schools outreach programme that seeks to bridge the information gap between secondary education and university, while guiding learners on academic pathways that respond to Uganda’s socio-economic development needs.
For decades, Nkumba University has maintained a strong tradition of taking career guidance and university information directly to schools across the country. The initiative has become an important platform for helping prospective students make informed decisions about their future while expanding access to quality higher education through scholarships, bursaries and other student support programmes ahead of each academic intake.
