Nkumba University has announced that celebrated financial literacy expert and motivational speaker Newton Buteraba will deliver the 25th Commencement Lecture on Wednesday, 22 October 2025, at 2:00 p.m. under the theme “Unlocking Potential: The Journey from Learning to Leading.”

The lecture, which precedes the University’s 27th Graduation Ceremony, is intended to make graduands translate academic knowledge into leadership and impact. “Mr. Buteraba’s life and work perfectly embody this year’s theme,” said Prof. Solomon Asiimwe, the Commencement lecture Chair. “He is a true definition of how learning, discipline, and resilience can lead one to become not just a leader, but a transformer of lives.”

Nicknamed “The Professor” for his unrelenting thirst for knowledge, Buteraba holds four degrees: in Statistics, Information Technology, Information Security, and Law. He is the Founder and CEO of House of Wealth, a financial literacy and wealth creation firm that has trained hundreds of thousands of Ugandans and impacted millions across media platforms.

Buteraba is widely recognized as Uganda’s leading voice on financial intelligence, having worked with institutions such as the World Bank, Stanbic Bank, the European Union, the British High Commission, USAID, and the National Social Security Fund (NSSF), where he is a certified Financial Intelligence Trainer.

His rise to prominence was not instant. Having experienced both business success and financial setbacks, Buteraba turned his personal lessons into a lifelong mission to educate others.

“Financial literacy is not just about money,” he often says. “It’s about discipline, decision-making, and developing the mindset that turns knowledge into opportunity.”

Through his company House of Wealth and vibrant online platforms ranging from TV programs to YouTube and TikTok he continues to reach audiences in over 90 countries, offering practical tools for personal finance, entrepreneurship, and wealth creation.

Among his flagship initiatives are the Corporate Financial Literacy Workshops, Entrepreneurial Wealth Summits, and the annual It’s Possible Conference, which brings together Ugandans at home and abroad to explore viable investment opportunities.

According to Nkumba University officials, Buteraba’s combination of academic achievement, business experience, and inspirational delivery makes him the ideal choice for this year’s commencement lecture.

“We wanted someone who reflects the bridge between the classroom and the real world,” said Dr. Anne Abaho, the Chairperson Ceremonies. “Mr. Buteraba is living proof that knowledge, when applied wisely, becomes leadership in action.”

The lecture will be held at Nkumba University’s main campus, and students, alumni, and members of the public are invited to attend. “We expect an afternoon of wisdom, energy, and challenge,” added Dr. Anne “Our graduands will not only celebrate their learning but also be inspired to lead.”
