Nkumba University Guild Presidential aspirant, Katende Muhammad, organized an Easter celebration feast for students on Sunday afternoon, an act that has earned him political mileage with many likening him to ‘the man of all people.’ A Muslim by religion, Katende served all students regardless of their religious orientation.
Held in the Ts1 room, the easter fete brought together students who enjoyed each other’s company on the resurrection day.
“Such is what I will be doing as your Guild President, ensuring that every student feels valued and cared for,” Katende said. “Easter is a time of joy and celebration, and I’m glad we have shared this together.”
The event featured a variety of traditional Ugandan dishes, and students lauded Katende’s initiative. “This gesture shows that Katende is a leader who genuinely cares about students’ welfare,” said Nambi Ruth, a Business Administration student. “It’s a small act of kindness that goes a long way.”
Katende’s campaign team emphasized his commitment to student-centered leadership. “Our leader’s actions demonstrate his dedication to the students,” said Kasozi David, a campaign team member. “He’s passionate about improving student life and welfare.”
Many have qualified this as an act that wins over students’ support, and certainly, Katende seems to have garnered support with the act considered to be of leadership trait.
As the guild presidential elections draw closer, Katende is optimistic that building cohesion through acts of kindness is paramount: “Let’s build a university community that’s supportive and caring,” he said. “I’m committed to being a leader who listens and works for the betterment of all students.”
Nkumba University students will head to the polls on Saturday, April 26, 2025, to elect their next guild president in a highly anticipated and closely contested election. Three aspirants, Katende Muhammad, Mawanda Derick, and Alinda Marvin, have been vying for support, each gaining momentum in the campaign trail.
The election promises to be a nail-biter, with students eager to choose a leader who will champion their interests and welfare. With just a few days to go before the polls open, the aspirants are expected to redouble their efforts to win over undecided voters.
The outcome of the election will have a significant impact on the university community, shaping the direction of student leadership and representation in the coming year.
