Thursday 25th June 2026 – Nkumba University has pledged to sustain and expand the gains made under the Cyber School–Mastercard Foundation eLearning Initiative following the successful conclusion of a five-year partnership that transformed digital teaching, learning, and inclusion at the institution.
The commitment was made during the project’s exit meeting held on Thursday, 25th June 2026, at Silver Springs Hotel in Bugolobi, marking the end of a collaborative initiative between Nkumba University, Cyber School Technology Solutions Limited, and the Mastercard Foundation that has significantly strengthened the university’s digital education ecosystem since its inception in 2022.
The partnership established a state-of-the-art eLearning Content Digitalisation Hub at Nkumba University, fully equipped with modern multimedia production facilities, while also building the capacity of academic staff and improving access to quality education for students, including learners with disabilities and refugees.
Speaking during the exit meeting, Cyber School Technology Solutions Technical Manager, Mr John Mukiibi, said the long-term success of the project would largely depend on the university’s commitment to sustaining and strengthening the systems that have already been established. “The sustainability of this programme depends on Nkumba University’s readiness to continue building on what has already been achieved and to expand its impact even further,” Mr Mukiibi said.
He noted that although significant progress had been registered, there remained a need for continued investment in the ICT Department, instructional design, and digital pedagogy to ensure quality online learning. “We continue to see strong demand for more interactive, engaging, and locally contextualized digital learning content. Digital transformation is not simply about deploying technology platforms; it is about strengthening people, institutional practices, and systems. Sustainability will depend on continuous capacity development and responsive support structures,” he added.
Mr Mukiibi said one of the programme’s most notable achievements was preparing students for the labour market through work-readiness, entrepreneurship, and business skills training. “Many students demonstrated professionalism during internships because of the competencies acquired through the programme. Some were retained by their host organizations after internship, while others have successfully started businesses using the entrepreneurship skills they gained,” he said.
