Assistant Inspector General of Police, Maj. Tom Magambo has urged student leaders to reflect on Uganda’s historical mission, emphasizing the importance of patriotism and personal responsibility in driving Uganda’s progress.

Speaking at the ongoing 14-day Higher Institutions of Learning student leaders’ patriotism training, AIGP Magambo took the students through a brief history of human civilization, from the Big Bang Theory to the Industrial Revolution.

He highlighted how the latter led to the exploitation of Africa, with European powers seeking slaves to work on their farms.Maj. Magambo, who heads the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, asked the students to consider Uganda’s historical mission, particularly in the context of President Museveni’s leadership, which he described as the second phase of the country’s historical mission.

The country, Magambo noted, has made significant progress in areas such as roads, hospitals, freedom, education, and technology. However, he cautioned that challenges like poverty, corruption, and WiFi addiction continue to bother the people.

Magambo emphasized the importance of family, health, and personal economic development in building a prosperous nation. “Nobody should lie to you, there’s no better blessing you’ll get apart from that of your parents,” he said.

He encouraged the students to be innovative and contribute to Uganda’s prosperity. “Every small thing you think about and know you can do well, do it. You’ll be contributing to our prosperity.”The training, which started on January 3, 2025, will be closed on January 17, 2025, by the Patron National Patriotism Secretariat Corps-Uganda, H.E President Yoweri Museveni.

AIGP Magambo’s presentation was part of the training’s efforts to equip student leaders with the knowledge and skills necessary to promote patriotism and national development.

Assistant Inspector General of Police Tom Magambo is a high-ranking officer in the Uganda Police Force.

He was promoted to his current rank by President Yoweri Museveni, a move that regularized his position within the police force.

Magambo has had a notable career, previously serving as the Director of the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), a position he took over from Assistant Inspector General of Police Grace Akullo.

Prior to his appointment as CID Director, Magambo was a Private attache’e to the Internal Security Organisation (ISO) before being elevated to the rank of Major by President Museveni.
