“It is true, Mzee Ssebugwawo is gone,” said a family friend, adding, “He succumbed to the long ailing battle with cancer coupled with advanced age.”

Nkumba University took to social media to mourn the fallen veteran Engineer who also served as a member of the university’s Foundation Body, “The Nkumba University community is mourning the loss of Engineer Daniel Ssebugwawo, a former member of the university’s Foundation Body. The University administration, staff, students, and alumni extend their condolences to the family and loved ones, most especially his beloved wife Maama Joyce Ssebugwawo.” Reads part of the post

Adding that, “As a Nkumba University Foundation Body member, Engineer Ssebugwawo played a crucial role in shaping the university’s vision and mission. May His Soul Rest in Peace.”

The deceased was the husband to the State Minister for ICT and National Guidance, Hon. Joyce Nabbosa Ssebugwawo. The couple met in 1963 at a family wedding, where Daniel started drawing advances towards Joyce, then a young woman preparing to depart for studies in the UK.

Joyce fondly shares her initial resistance but confesses to having eventually accepted his advances after Daniel followed her to England also for academic purposes.

In 1965, the two tied the knot while in London when Joyce was just 19. Their 59-year union was blessed with children and marked by a shared dedication to service and development.

Tributes continue to pour in for Ssebugwawo, with preliminary funeral arrangements indicating that the late will be laid to rest at his ancestral home in Nkumba on Monday 23rd December at 2 pm.

Prior to that, there will be a requiem service today Saturday 21st December at 5:00 pm at his Naalya home, and the main funeral service will take place on Sunday 22nd December at Namirembe Cathedral, starting at 1 pm.

The body will then be returned to his residence in Naalya where a service will be held at 6 pm. Later, the official vigil will follow.
