467 students have been connected to Eduroam, the nation wide free internet for academic institutions.
This took place during day 1 and day 2 of the E-learning clinic that commenced on Monday 26th August 2024, at the Vice Chancellor’s Gardens.
According to the E-Learning Officer, Mr. Joseph Lwevuze, the E-learning clinic is being conducted to equip students with basic knowledge on using E-learning tools but most importantly helping them access free internet while on campus and beyond.
“The clinic has been deliberately organised to help most especially the new students get free internet connection while at campus, and acquire necessary guidance on how to navigate the E-learning system.”
Adding that, “We are also creating e-mails for those without and offering guidance on how to use their students’ portals.”
Wednesday morning saw more students flock the clinic to have their phones and laptops connected to free internet.
Many say, this was timely alternative for the costly data charges.
Kalange Brian, a first year, first semester student of computer science says “being connected to eduroam, has helped him save the cost on data.”
Kalungi Jackline, another student from the School of Education revealed how she has had challenges accessing internet while at campus but with eduroam , she is good to go,
“I have been facing challenges of buying internet data but not any more, with eduroam am good to go” said Kalungi Jackline a first year student at the School Education.
E-Learning Clinic takes place every beginning of a new semester and this edition is expected to run untill 6th September, 2024 with a target of reaching at least 1000 students.
During the previous edition, close to 800 students participated at the E-learning clinic, of these, 500 were connected to eduroam, 200 got assistance with their student’s portals and 100 enrolled for E-learning courses.
Authorities say, this has been instrumental in teaching and learning at Nkumba University.
