Nkumba University management is considering institutionalizing the Women’s Conference as a biannual event, following the successful inaugural edition that inspired a wave of empowerment and ambition among female students.
On 22nd October 2025, Ms. Nassanga Hannah, Chairperson of the Nkumba University Women’s Conference, officially handed over a comprehensive report on the recently concluded conference to the university management. The report was received by Prof. Jude T. Lubega, the Vice Chancellor, and Mr. Francis Ssengendo, the University Secretary.
The inaugural Nabagereka Women’s Conference, a landmark event held on 20th September 2025 at the Mpanga Library, Nkumba University, was designed to empower young women through mentorship, leadership, and mindset transformation.
In her presentation, Ms. Nassanga highlighted that the conference was conceived as “a targeted response to the persistent challenge of low self-esteem among young women and female students, a critical barrier to academic success, career progression, and holistic growth.”
She added that the event provided “a multi-faceted platform for mentorship, skills training, and mental wellness advocacy,” all aimed at helping participants unlock their potential and take charge of their futures.
According to the report, the primary outcome of the conference was “a documented, significant shift in participant self-perception, transforming a cohort of academically capable yet self-doubting young women into empowered individuals ready to assume leadership roles and drive their own economic and social development.”
The conference’s agenda revolved around four core goals:
(a) Promoting education by encouraging girls to prioritize learning and strive for academic excellence.
(b) Challenging stereotypes that hinder girls’ progress and participation.
(c) Empowering leadership by inspiring girls to take on leadership roles and become agents of change.
(d) Encouraging personal growth by helping girls pursue their dreams with confidence and integrity.
While receiving the report, Prof. Lubega commended the initiative as visionary and transformative.“This effort has not only given our female students a voice but also inspired a sense of purpose and ambition among them,” he said. “It is clear that the Women’s Conference has sparked a renewed determination in our young women to pursue their dreams and become leaders in their fields.”
Mr. Ssengendo, the University Secretary, echoed the Vice Chancellor’s sentiments, describing the conference as a powerful vehicle for mentorship and transformation.“We are proud of this initiative,” he noted. “It aligns perfectly with our mission to nurture holistic individuals who are confident, socially conscious, and ready to make meaningful contributions to society.”
In recognition of the impact and promise of the initiative, Nkumba University management is now considering institutionalizing the Women’s Conference to be held twice a year, with full funding support. “This decision ensures sustainability and underscores our deep commitment to nurturing and empowering female students,” Mr. Francis Ssengendo.
The Nabagereka Women’s Conference has thus become a cornerstone of Nkumba University’s efforts to promote gender equity, leadership, and personal development, laying the groundwork for a generation of confident, resilient, and economically literate women leaders.
