Jacob Kiplimo wins the Great North Run

Ugandan high-grade runner, Jacob Kiplimo has emerged champion in this year’s edition of the Great North Run in England today.

The double commonwealth champion recorded 00:59:32 timing ahead of Ethiopia’s Selomon Barega and Kenenisa Bekere who each finished at 1:00:39 and 1:01:01 respectively.

Thousands jammed the streets in North London to participate in the Great North Run.

The race saw African Athletes from Uganda and Ethiopia dominating events.

Among women contenders, Kenya’s Hellen Obiri defended her championship with 1:07:05 timing ahead of fellow Kenyan Perez Jepchirchir who came in second after recording 1:07:07 and Ethiopia’s Almanz Aryana trailed in 3rd registering 1:07:10.

The race is said to have raised around £25million for charity this year with More than 60,000 runners participants.

It has been and continues to be a great ride for Kiplimo.

The athlete started with gold at the Ras Al Kaimah half marathon in Dubai, early this year, a silver in Bauhas Galan in the Stockholm Diamond league (3000m) and later won Bronze in World Athletics in Oregon’s 10,000m race.

He put up stellar performance earning him double Gold in both the 10,000m and 5000m race in the just concluded commonwealth games-Birmingham, London.

At just 21 years, Kiplimo has over 15 professional titles added to his name and continues to promise great performance.

Gold – first place 2022 Birmingham 5000 m, Gold medal 2022 Birmingham 10,000 m

World Junior Championships
Silver –2018 Tampere 10,000 m, Bronze medal – third place2016

World Cross Country Championships
Gold- 2019 Aarhus Senior team.

Gold medal 2017 Kampala Junior race.

Silver medal 2019 Aarhus Senior race.

World Half Marathon Championships
Gold medal 2020 Gdynia Individual.
