UPDF takes over the construction of Gulu University
The Uganda People’s Defense Force (UPDF) engineering brigade has taken over the construction of the multi-purpose building at Gulu University Constituent.
This follows the completion of the compensation of 294 landlords who provided 794 acres of land for the development of the learning institution. The construction site was handed over to the UPDF trading arm, National Enterprise Corporation Limited, and works are expected to commence soon.
Luwero Hospital terminates the internship of two medical students
Luwero Hospital has terminated the internship of two medical students and also put a health worker under investigation over alleged malpractice.
Dr Bruno Oyik, the medical superintendent of Luwero hospital revealed that two medical interns had been expelled from the training after they got reports that they asked for money to handle patients without a supervisor in breach of the set guidelines.
Adding that, “a health worker has been forwarded to the district rewards and sanction committee to defend himself over reports that he extorted money from patients.”
It is alleged that Health health workers or interns extort between Shs 200,000 and Shs 250,000 from patients for medical attention.
Oyik added that they have put up call lines for the patients to report suc cases and any intern or health worker involved will be punished.
Molly Katanga secures medical report
Molly Katanga, who is accused of murdering her husband, Henry Katanga, has secured a medical report from prison.
Molly was denied bail on April 9 by High court criminal division judge Isaac Muwata for failing to prove exceptional circumstances, Molly has now made a second bail application.
Plane skids off runway at Senegal airport
A Boeing 737 plane carrying 85 people skidded off a runway at the airport in Dakar, Senegal’s capital, injuring 10 people.
Videos shared on social media appeared to show a left wing on fire. The aircraft was later cordoned off with red and white tape, the Reuters news agency reported.
