The 31st Guild Parliament of Nkumba University, on 6th May, commenced vetting the newly appointed cabinet ministers in an exercise that ended on Wednesday, 7th May 2025.
Chaired by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Walugembe Sulaiman Jjuko, the exercise aimed to assess the eligibility of ministers as stipulated in the Guild constitution.
The vetting process, which started on Tuesday, 6th May at around 4 pm, saw the ministers grilled to the core as the committee attempted to establish whether the minister in question was on normal progression with no retakes or missed papers and had also cleared tuition to the dot.
The MPs tasked ministers with a range of questions, probing their policies, plans, and vision for the guild government. The ministers were expected to demonstrate their understanding of the issues affecting the students and their ability to address them with promptness.
According to Guild President H.E Mawanda Derrick, Ministers were appointed on Monday 5, May 2025, and will assume duty upon clearance by the Guild Parliament.
The appointing authority presented 13 names as cabinet ministers and 13 as state ministers who now constitute the Executive arm of government. Other key appointments include the Secretary of Cabinet, Supreme Court Justices led by the Chief Justice, and Trial Court Judges led by the Head Judge, who will complete the 3rd arm of government, the Judiciary.
“Following a thorough vetting process, the Nkumba University Students Guild Parliament has approved the appointment of Cabinet and State Ministers, as well as members of the Judiciary. As per Article 8, clause 6 (l) and Article 11, Clause 2 of the Nkumba University Students Guild Constitution 2022, the Guild President has formally appointed the following individuals to these key positions,” said Rt. Hon. Walugembe Sulaiman.
