Nkumba University Holds Press Briefing, Unveils Plans for Upcoming Graduation

Nkumba University held a press briefing today 24th October 2024 at the Vice-Chancellor Boardroom to outline its preparations for the upcoming 26th graduation ceremony of Nkumba University, scheduled for October 26, 2024.

Vice Chancellor Professor Jude Lubega led the briefing, emphasizing the university’s readiness for the event sought to be a redefining occasion as the institution also marks its 30th anniversary.

Professor Lubega, expressed his excitement in regard to the dual celebrations, “We are excited to celebrate our 26th graduation ceremony, which coincides with our 30th anniversary. Preparations are underway to ensure a memorable and seamless experience for our graduands and guests.”

“This graduation ceremony is special, not just because it’s our 26th, but also because it coincides with our 30th anniversary.” Prof. Lubega stated. Adding that, “We will also be unveiling the new Nkumba University Master plan and the newly rebranded Ffulu Building,”

The graduation ceremony, scheduled for October 26, 2024, will see over 1,600 students graduate with degrees, diplomas, and certificates in various academic disciplines.

Dr. Anne Abaho, the Chairperson Ceremonies Committee of Nkumba University outlined the ceremony’s schedule with highlights of the event preparations.

“The ceremony will start at 7:00 AM with a police band performance, Chancellor’s Procession, followed by the awarding of degrees, diplomas, and certificates to the graduating class of 2024.” Said Dr. Anne

“We are expecting approximately 5,000 people and a lot of work is being done to ensure that graduands have a memorable experience,” she added.

Authorities at the Entebbe-based institution of learning have also emphasized the importance of punctuality and discipline pre-, during, and post-graduation day, “Please keep time and observe discipline before, during, and even after the ceremony. Follow the instructions, and identify yourself when requested. This will help us run the event seamlessly,” Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Jude Lubega urged.

Academic Registrar, Dr. Frank Pio Kiyingi reminded students to collect their transcripts after the graduation ceremony. “Ph.D students will receive their documents in blue folders, master’s students in black folders, and undergraduates in envelopes. You’ll need your student or national ID to collect them,” he clarified.

The university’s Secretary congratulated the graduands, encouraging them to make a positive impact in their respective fields. “I congratulate our graduands and emphasize the importance of making positive changes wherever you go. Apply the skills and knowledge acquired, and carry the torch of Nkumba University as our ambassadors,” he said.

The press briefing was followed by a commencement lecture aimed at guiding graduands on applying their acquired skills and knowledge in the real world.
