Nkumba University, today, 14th May 2025, played host to 13 nursing students from Denmark, who visited the institution to share experiences with their Ugandan counterparts.
The students, who included Wise Jepperen, Vicma Bulou Hensen, Hejbera Pteresen, and Selma Schinnerup, among others, were received by the University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jude Lubega, in the company of the Nursing School Principal, Sister Babirye Agness, and nursing students.
Prof. Lubega commended the students for choosing a profession that ensures the health and well-being of others. “Nursing is not for everyone; it takes thoughtfulness of others to embark on a course that will leave an impact on society,” he said. “Press on until you graduate so that you see others live because you breathed life into that being, delivering diligently as a nurse.”
Gesturing goodwill, Prof. Jude gifted the students with Nkumba University-branded souvenirs, including notebooks and mugs, as a token of appreciation for their visit.
After the meeting, Sister Agness took the students on a tour of the university campus, showcasing various facilities, including the School of Business Administration and the School of Sciences. The Danish students even got to attend a class with their Nkumba University counterparts and a visit to the skills lab.
The students are currently on an internship program at Entebbe Regional Referral Hospital, courtesy of Try Medics Uganda, a hospital internship placement company based in Uganda.
According to Selina Olumbe from Try Medics Uganda, the visit aimed to initiate talks for potential collaborations between the two institutions. “The visit was meant to trigger initiation talks for potential collaborations moving forward,” she said.
This visit marks an important step in fostering international partnerships and exchange programs between Nkumba University and Nursing students affiliated with Try Medics Uganda, potentially opening up new opportunities for students’ study exchange programs.
Over the years, Nkumba University has hosted international students on study exchange visits and visiting scholar programs, further solidifying its reputation as a hub for global academic exchange.
