“We are privileged to have Nkumba University as part of our community, and as University students, it is good to support your community, well done,” said Kiiza.

“We have come to join in because there is need to nurture our youth into responsible citizens.” he added.

According to Kiiza, “It has always been Kabaka’s call to have youth spearhead ‘Bulungi Bwansi’.”

Kampala Campus Guild Governor, Abdallah Kayonde, emphasized the essential role of students in maintaining a clean community, “It is our role as youth of this area to have a clean and litter-free royal mile.”

Kayonde also commended the Migrant Worker’s Voice and KCCA-Rubaga Division for heeding the call.

Dhabangi Geofrey, Guild Speaker of Parliament at Nkumba University Kampala Campus, called on other universities in Kampala to follow suit, “We have done this, and we pray that it will serve as an example to our colleagues in other Universities. To have a clean city, we need everyone on board.”

‘Bulungi Bwansi’ which refers to the Beauty of the Earth is traced back to the 60s, originating as relentless communal work in Buganda.

The exercise required everyone to do good for the well-being of the Kingdom.

Today, ‘Bulungi Bwansi’ has expanded to schools, organizations, families, and individuals doing good in their communities.

Nkumba University Student’s Guild Council spearheaded the clean-up, aligning with the academic institution’s commitment to fulfilling it’s third role which focuses on community engagement.
