Nkumba University will be celebrating 30 years of research and academic prowess after making 30 Year since its inception on 18th June, 1994. Management has lined up a series of activities to commemorate this achievement. The activities will run between July and December 2024.
Under the theme “30 Years of Transforming Dreams into Knowledge and Skills,” the university already launched its digital space and now plans to conduct community outreaches, among other activities.
The celebrations will also include a Sports Gala, Public Lecture, Fashion show, Nkumba @30 Marathon, and the Graduation Ceremony.
Management now calls upon students and the general public to join in as they celebrate 3 decades of academic excellence.
“We have a rich history spanning a solid 3 decades, and we are proud of our achievements. We call upon everyone to join us in this celebration as we look forward to many more years of transforming dreams into knowledge and skills.” Said Prof. Jude Lubega, Nkumba University Vice Chancellor.
Established in 1994, Nkumba University has a profound history rooted in a commitment to education that dates back to a visionary kindergarten in 1952. In 1951, Ssalongo Erisa Kintu convened a meeting with Mzee Charles Kisitu Ffulu, and Mzee Zefania Mpanga to chat ideas of what would eventually become today’s Nkumba University.
The three were later joined by other community members and so, on February 6th, 1952, the journey began with the establishment of a kindergarten at Ffulu’s home, with a pioneer cohort of only twelve pupils. Records indicate that within two years, the number rose to over 150.
As the years went by, the small kindergarten grew into a primary school, then a junior secondary school, and later a senior secondary school.
In 1969, the secondary school transformed into a vocational institute, and in 1974, it became Nkumba College of Commerce and Advanced Studies before transforming into a university in 1994.
Over the years, the institution has positioned itself as a one-stop center for high-quality education and research within the country and beyond with its mission tailored to providing an environment that enables the “cultivation of competence, confidence, creativity, and character in academic professional, and social interactions.”
