Nkumba University’s school of social sciences is set to go to the polls in an election that will see students vote new leaders.

The election process comenced on Monday 16th September 2024 with the electoral commission receiving applications from contenders.

Returning after two years hiatus, the election seeks to fill positions of; School President and Vice President.


The same election will see positions of commissioners for various study programs occupied.

The School electoral commission says, available Commissioner positions include; Commissioner for Bachelor of Arts in Community and Development Studies, Commissioner for Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration and Management, Commissioner for Bachelor of Social Work and Social Administration, Commissioner for Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Diplomacy, Commissioner for Bachelor of Science in Journalism and Public Relations plus  Commissioner for Bachelor of Science in Guidane and Counselling.

The race for Presidency has so far attracted 3 candidates including; Kivumbi Edward, Musemesa Jona and Sempijja Edward.

Students from different course programs have also picked nomination papers to fill positions of commissioners.

The School Chairperson Electoral commission, Mr. Kamukama Rukundo Clinton assured voters of “a fair and free election.”

According to Mr. Kamukama, the election date will be announced later after the commission is done with scrutinizing the applications from those who have tenered in their interest.

“We will announce the election date after carefully scrutinizing the final list of applicants.” Said Mr. Kamukama

This will be the second election since the establishment on the society in 2022.

Nicklas Musasizi the incumbent President has served for two years.
