In a highly contested finale, Year One Law students pulled off a stunning upset, defeating their senior counterparts, Year Four, 8-7 in penalties, to lift the coveted Prof Kakooza Memorial trophy!
The freshers, led by captain Zambrota Zubair, held their nerves to secure a hard-fought draw in regular time, setting the stage for a nail-biting penalty shootout.
“We did it! Our solidarity was key to this victory,” exclaimed Zubair in the post-match interview. “I’m grateful to my teammates for trusting me to steer the team to victory.”
Disan Prosper, the School of Law Sports Minister aserted that year Ones challenging their counter parts in year 4 shows the tournament’s competitiveness.
“Year Ones challenging Year Fours shows level of competitiveness. The talent and determination exhibited makes the Prof Kakooza Memorial tournament so special.”
The annual tournament was organized by the 19th Law SoIciety Government, to honor Professor Joseph Kakooza, founder of Nkumba University’s Law School.
Kuganja Jovan Joel, Law Society President, emphasized the tournament’s significance to ProfessorKakooza’slegacy, “This event fosters unity, teamwork, and healthy competition among Law students, this breathes life to Professor Kakooza’s legacy.”
The annual tournament, now in its second edition, was initiated by former Law School President Gideon Mwanje to honor Professor Joseph Kakooza, founder of Nkumba University’s Law School.
Last year, the finalist challenged year 3s in the final to claim the trophy and a bull.
