The biggest annual Trade expo at the Entebbe based Nkumba University is back with a bang. The 7 day event kicked off yesterday, 20th February 2023 as Musician Roden Kabako put up an electrifying performance that set students ablaze.

Presiding over the opening ceremony, the Mayor, Entebbe Municipal Council, his worship Fabrice Brad Rulinda reminded students to enjoy responsibly and keep a keen eye on each other.

Under the theme; ” Bringing students with the Community Through Commerce And Entertainment For Academic Excellence.” the Trade Bazaar is expected to give freshers a wide range of merchandise within reach and at pocket friendly prices as the semester picks momentum.

Speaking on behalf of the Dean of Students, Mr. Muyiira Joseph said that, “events like these should always give freshers an opportunity to get to know each other as they acclimatize to the campass atmosphere.”

The Chairperson Organizing Committee, Jeff Geoffrey Masereka’s observations were that this year’s Trade Bazaar could have been allocated a short duration but will be one of the best given the number of business stalls registered, the variations in the products and the entertainment. “One thing I can tell a fresher, and any other student out there, is that; this event is your’s, come and feel the campus vibe, save money on every item you buy and be entertained by the best artists with great music mixology from unparalleled DJs, it has been allocated 7 days because of fear that it would interfere with classes which is primarily the reason we join campus, the rest are secondary.” Said Geoffrey.

Traders are optimistic they will reap big from the event, “This is the only opportunity for us to reap big, it only happens once in a year and it comes at a time when students are financially loaded.” Said Nabuma Mabel- a stall attendant.

One of the students, Josephine Nalule expressed happeness saying that rumors of the Trade Bazaar’s halt was making her lose hope, ” i was almost giving up, at fast, we heard that it might not happen, then rumors circulated that it would start on 13th, when we didn’t see anything on the 13th, I thought it had been scraped off but I am glad it is here, I hope to get good staff at a cheaper price,” Said Josephine Nalule, a first year Business Administration Student.

The Trade Bazaar activities are expected to start at 5pm each day and close at midnight.

Unlike this year and last year, the previous trade Bazaars have always been held within the first two weeks of the semester excluding the 2020 and the 2021 hiatus due to COVID-19. And because the postponement interfered with classes last year, this year’s Trade Bazaar will only run for one week.
