As Nkumba University celebrates 30 years of being a guiding light to many Uganda scholars , it has joined with the Drugs Hapana initiative to tackle the growing problem of drug abuse in secondary schools and among the youth.
This comes at the time when there are so many cases of Drug abuses in secondary schools. The Partnership will see a success of the coming 3rd National Prefects Conference at Hotel Africana on the 25th day of July,2024 which is next week. A great number of secondary school leaders will be attending and being guided on the fight to stop the usage of drugs among the young people in schools.
The partnership aims to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse, provide support and resources for students struggling with addiction, and promote a drug-free culture in schools and communities.
During the CBS Radio program interview, Dr. Bbosa, the Director of Kampala Campus averred that it is prudent to fight this vice of drugs at the grassroots before it is too late at the University, this is why Nkumba University joined the call against drugs in schools.
Mr. Mwanje Gideon, a student leader who serves as the President of Uganda Law Students Association and President Elect Law students Association of East Africa emphacised the need to educate student leaders about the steps to identify drug users and also the remedies towards assisting them overcome such menace.
“We are committed to supporting the Drugs Hapana initiative in their efforts to combat drug abuse in secondary schools and among the youth,” said Dr. Sulaiman Bbosa. Director of Nkumba University, Kampala campus.
Mwanje Gideon further emphasised that if all organisations work together, the danger of drug abuse will be curbed .
