President Yoweri Museveni has appointed Hajat Sharifah Buzeki as the new Executive Director of the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), replacing Frank Rusa. Benon Kigenyi has been named as her deputy, filling the positions left vacant after the president dismissed former KCCA Executive Director Dorothy Kisaka and her deputy David Luyimbazi.
The appointments were confirmed by Deputy Presidential Press Secretary Faruk Kirunda, who stated that the president’s decision is in line with his powers as stipulated under the KCCA Act. “It’s true that His Excellency has appointed Hajat Sharifah Buzeki as the new KCCA Executive Director, with Mr. Benon Kigenyi as her Deputy. Their names have been forwarded to Public Service for formalization,” Kirunda said.
Before taking office, Buzeki and Kigenyi will undergo a due process, which is expected to be completed soon. Once formalized, the Head of Public Service and Secretary to the Cabinet will issue an official confirmation of their appointments.Buzeki brings a wealth of experience to her new role, with an extensive track record in public administration and urban development.
Hajat Sharifah Buzeki’s appointment signals a renewed focus on strengthening KCCA’s management and operational efficiency to address the growing demands of Kampala as a rapidly developing city. Kigenyi, her deputy, is expected to complement her leadership by leveraging his expertise in public administration and governance.
The duo’s appointment is seen as a move by the government to bolster KCCA’s efforts in improving service delivery, infrastructure development, and urban management in Kampala.
The two vacancies arose after the tragic incident at the Kiteezi landfill, which claimed over 30 lives and left many injured. The former KCCA Executive Director Dorothy Kisaka and her deputy David Luyimbazi were dismissed following allegations of negligence linked to the incident.
