Ignatius Kangave Musaazi, the former Guild President of Nkumba University, has been hailed as a champion of digital empowerment after launching a groundbreaking Wi-Fi initiative that has transformed students’ lives.
The eduroam Wi-Fi network, a secure and global roaming internet service for the academic communities, was strategically installed in Empire, Dynasty, MP Hostels.
For Josephine Namakula, a third-year student, the initiative has been a game-changer. “This came at a time when data costs were weighing heavily on us. Having free Wi-Fi in my hostel has helped me attend online classes and do research without worrying about data bundles. We’re truly grateful to Kangave Musaazi for thinking about us,” she said.

Joel Okello, a second-year IT student, echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the impact of the eduroam connection on their academic pursuits. “This is something that will always be remembered. It’s not just about saving money, but also about ensuring consistent and fast internet access for our studies and projects.”
In a joint statement, several students expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the former Guild President. “As a student, I deeply appreciate Mr. Musaazi for the incredible initiative of providing Wi-Fi to our hostels, it is something that many have attempted but failed to do. We are genuinely grateful for his thoughtfulness.”
Francis Mugabi, a student beneficiary of the initiative, praised Musaazi’s innovative solutions, which have addressed key challenges faced by the student community. “When I heard about it sometime back, I thought this was the same old political lines many use to draw attention, but I am impressed that he has kept his promise.
Musaazi’s legacy at Nkumba University continues to inspire many following a remarkable reign as Guild President (2022-2023) which saw the student’s immediate needs addressed with promptness.
With plans to transfer the same leadership skills beyond Nkumba University, the grandson to Uganda’s Political Father, Sir Ignatius Kangave Musaazi threw his hat into the ring, declaring his intention to represent the youth in the central region of Uganda.
In a tweet posted on November 17, 2024, Musaazi announced his candidacy for the Youth Member of Parliament position, calling on fellow Ugandans, especially the youth, to join him in pursuing their shared interests.
Many believe that with his inherent leadership qualities, Musaazi will deliver on his promises. His grandfather, Sir Ignatius Kangave Musaazi, was a renowned political figure and Ugandan nationalist who played a pivotal role in the anti-colonial struggle, paving the way for Uganda’s independence in 1962.
As the founder of the Uganda National Congress (UNC), Sir Musaazi was a champion of unity and self-determination, inspiring Ugandans to fight for their collective future. With his grandfather’s legacy as a backdrop, junior Musaazi’s candidacy has generated significant interest, with many eager to see if he will follow in his grandfather’s footsteps.
