Guild Leadership Dissolved, Caretaker Government Constituted



The 2022/2023 Guild government has been dissolved today paving way for the caretaker government.

By invoking powers vested upon the University Secretary under Article 15 Section (I) of the Nkumba University Students’ Guild Constitution, Professor Francis Kasekende dissolved the Guild Government.

The dissolution occurred during a session held at the Language Room today, August 30th, 2023 to usher in a caretaker government ahead of the Guild elections scheduled for September .

Professor Kasekende referred to the same article to appoint a caretaker government. “By Article 15 section(I) of the Guild constitution, I hereby appoint a Caretaker Government”

The new Government will serve for the period between the commencement of campaigns and the inauguration of the president for the year 2023/2024.”



The caretaker government will include the Guild President as the Fountain of honor, the Vice President, the Speaker and Deputy Speaker, the Prime Minister, the Attorney General, the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, the Minister of Information, the Minister of Finance, and the Campus Affairs Minister.



The Guild President expressed gratitude to his team for their diligent service to the student body.”I want to thank my team for the work weldone and the university management for giving us the opportunity to serve. ”



He further acknowledged the inevitability of this transition and encouraged the caretaker government to continue prioritizing student needs, ” I knew this day would come, change of power signals peacefully transition, I implore transition Governemnt to ensure service delivery to the students. “



Dean of Students Mr. Christopher Kimuli used the same platform to congratulate the newly established caretaker government and underscored the importance of focusing on student welfare over personal interests.

According to the Guild constitution, the disbandment of the government mandates the establishment of a caretaker government.



Yesterday, Parliament vetted electoral commissioners, and on the same day, the Electoral Commission was enacted, chaired by Andweneho Auther, the former guild presidential candidate.



Today, the enacted Electoral Commission convened to outline the election roadmap, which is expected to be unveiled tomorrow.

Nkumba University Students will be going to the polls on September 9th to vote for their new leaders.

As the political sphere heats up, NUP has already endorsed Masaasizi Nicklas, President of the School of Social Sciences Society, while Ruhinda Wilberforce from the Law School secured the NRM ticket.

Fridah Kebirungi and Kangave Ignitious Musaazi are set to run as independent candidates.
