Busitema’s Waduuma Derrick opened the scoring in the 18th minute with a penalty-area header, giving the hosts a 1-0 lead at halftime.

However, IUIU’s determination to win their first-ever trophy this season paid off in the second half. Busitema’s advantage was disrupted when Waduuma Derrick received a red card, reducing the hosts to 10 players.

IUIU capitalized on the opportunity. Onongo Dennis equalized in the 82nd minute, converting Shikanga’s free kick into a goal. Tamubula Ismael sealed the victory with a stunning strike from the edge of the box, securing IUIU’s 2-1 win.

IUIU now leads Group A, pending the defending champions’ return from Nigeria where they are representing Uganda in the All African University Games.

The Islamic oriented University last reached the quarterfinals in the 2023/24 season after triumphing against Victoria University.
