Nkumba University‘s outgoing Dean of Students, Christopher Kimuli, has officially handed over the office to his successor, Timothy Odeke, today, 4th June 2026.

The handover was witnessed by key stakeholders, including the Guild President, the Guild Finance Minister, the university’s security leadership, Sports Tutor Joseph Muyiira, the University Nurse, hostel wardens, and other members of the department.

Speaking at the handover, Kimuli congratulated Odeke upon assuming office and expressed confidence in his ability to steer student affairs. “I am grateful that it is you, a person I have handled as a student, who is taking over this office. I am sure you will deliver,” Kimuli said. He urged him to put more emphasis on streamlining student support systems at the institution.

In his acceptance remarks, Odeke paid tribute to Kimuli for what he described as exemplary leadership and pledged to build on the gains achieved by his predecessor, “I am not a magician. I am here to add a block to what is already moving. We will work as a team and deliver,” he said.

He emphasized the importance of collaboration among staff and students, noting that the university’s core mission revolves around the learners it serves. “The student is the reason we exist, and we must prioritize their well-being in everything we do,” he added.

Odeke assumes office after serving as Assistant Academic Registrar in charge of Admissions, where he played a key role in student recruitment and admissions management. His former position has since been taken over by John Bosco Walusimbi.

The transition follows a series of management changes and appointments announced earlier this week by Nkumba University. University authorities described the reshuffle as part of broader efforts to strengthen institutional efficiency and enhance service delivery across various departments.

The Dean of Students’ office remains one of the university’s most critical administrative units, serving as the link between students and management while overseeing welfare, accommodation, discipline, and co-curricular activities.

University observers say the appointment of Mr. Odeke comes at a time when higher education institutions are increasingly placing greater emphasis on student-centered services, mental health support, and learner engagement.

As he settles into his new role, expectations remain high that Odeke will build on the foundation laid by his predecessor while steering the office towards addressing the evolving needs of the university’s growing student population.
