New Guild President Sworn-In

In a ceremony presided over by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jude T Lubega, newly elected Guild President, H.E Noah Kasimba, was sworn-in yesterday 7th May 2024, marking the beginning of his tenure. This follows his victory in a historic election re-run last week, where he defeated Orisingura Benson with 501 votes (51%) out of 1002 votes cast.

Addressing the new Guild President, Prof. Lubega emphasized the importance of prioritizing academics, “First of all, congratulations. If you are to succeed as a president, prioritize academics.”

He also cautioned against confrontational leadership, advising Kasimba to, “not come to power to fight management’’ adding that, “where need be, engage amicably.”

Prof. Lubega further offered words of wisdom, urging the new Guild President to adapt to leadership challenges and navigate processes effectively: “I know a lot of things are going to revolve around you, including decision-making; know how to juggle around it, but most importantly, understand the process.”

President Kasimba’s tenure begun yesterday and will run for one year, ending in May 2025. The swearing-in ceremony was preceded by the election of the Guild Speaker and Deputy Speaker, with Sulaiman Walugembe from the School of Law emerging as the 30th Guild Speaker of Nkumba University Guild Parliament.

What you Need to Know

The 30th Nkumba university guild Presidential race has ended in a tie after Kasimba Noah and Benson Orisingura each picked 381 votes from the 980 votes cast during the initial election. Their counterpart Zziwa Bashir only picking 185 votes.

Mr. Herbert Maseruka evoked Article 23 clause 1(d) of NU Guild Constitution under general election General elections guidelines which states that, “whenever there is a tie in any guild elections, elections shall be repeated for the tied candidates.
