The Nkumba University Catholic community came together for an end of semester overnight, under the theme “I have called you by name, you are mine” (Isaiah 43:1). The event, organized by Fr. Herman Zziwa, the Holy Family Catholic chaplain, took place on May 9, 2025.
As the congregation gathered in the quiet church, candles flickered gently, casting a warm glow over the devotees. The atmosphere was filled with reverence and faith as they exposed the Holy Sacrament. When Reverend Father Joseph lifted the sacred host, everyone knelt, some bowing their heads in deep prayer.
The congregation whispered prayers, seeking forgiveness, expressing gratitude for blessings, and asking for guidance. After a session of prayer and devotion, the priest invited questions from the audience. One student shared her struggle, saying she faced more problems whenever she prayed and fasted. The priest offered guidance, providing reassurance and spiritual direction.
A poignant moment came when the congregation prayed for their neighbors, wishing them the same blessings they sought for themselves. Throughout the night, people took turns kneeling before the Holy Sacrament, some singing softly, while others remained silent, listening to the presence of God in their hearts.
Ssentamu Daniel described the experience, saying, “This was also a night of battling with sleep.” As dawn approached, the priest blessed the congregation, and the people rose, feeling renewed and at peace. With grateful hearts, they left the church, carrying the light of faith into the world.
The end-of-semester overnight served as a powerful reminder of the importance of faith and community as students embark on the end-of-semester exams.
