One of the notable figures in attendance was the Vice Chancellor of Nkumba University, Prof Jude Lubega, who not only lent his support to the initiative but led by example when he took it upon himself to donate blood.

The ViceChancellor’s participation served as a major morale booster to those in attendance. Many praised his commitment to promoting a healthy living and were inspired to join the que for blood donation.

Speaking during the blood donation drive, the President of the Rotaract Club of Nkumba University, H.E Ampa Rinah, expressed gratitude to the university community for their overwhelming support and noted that the blood collected would be donated to the Mengo Rotary blood bank at Mengo Hospital to help save lives.

The two day blood donation drive saw over 500 participants engaging in the drive.

“Each pint of blood donated can save as many as three lives,” says experts at UC Irvine’s Blood Donor Center.

According to the experts, there are four types of products that can be derived from one blood donation: red cells, platelets, plasma and cryoprecipitate and each is essentially vital when needed.

The Guild President, H.E Toka Victor lauded the Rotaract Club of Nkumba University for its efforts in promoting community service among the students and staff.

President Toka further encouraged students to embrace healthy living practices and not to relent participating in health initiatives.

The blood drive was part of the Rotaract Club of Nkumba University’s larger mission to inspire young people to become active citizens and leaders in their communities.

Ampa Rinah expressed that the event’s success had motivated and inspired the club to plan more community service projects in the future, aimed at improving the lives of people in surrounding communities.

Chartered in 1996, the Rotaract Club of Nkumba University continues to provide a platform for students to help improve the lives of others while developing their leadership and professional skills.

The initiative not only helps strengthen the University’s community but also fosters a culture of empathy, compassion, and social responsibility among its students.

The Rotaract Club of Nkumba University in partnership with the Guild Government organized a two day blood donation drive during the one week long annual Health week.

As part of the health week activities, the club mobilized the University community to donate blood.
