The Rotary Club of Nalumunye last week launched a house refurbishment project aimed at renovating a dilapidated house belonging to Mr.Kyobe Musisi, an 80 year old resident of Nalumunye village, In Wakiso District.

Mr. kyobe lives alone finding it difficult not only to access basic needs but also the ability to afford house renovation costs.

The house which was at the verge of collapsing is made of sludge bricks and was constructed close to 15 years ago but has been Kyobe’s only refuge even in it’s sorry state.

“I have lived in discomfort for along time, my colleagues live well but I was just living in dust. for year’s I have supported Rotary and I am glad that they came to my rescue,” said Kyobe adding that, “I will live peacefully when my house is finished.”

The 2021 Uganda Bureau of Statistics report placed the number of elderly persons at 1.6 million representing 5% of the total population and it is expected to increase to 5.5 million by 2050.

Nearly one out of ten elderly persons live alone in Uganda.

Living alone is associated with being divorced, Separated, widowed, being disabled among other reasons which leave impeding challenges most especially to the elderly.

In most cases, it takes efforts of service oriented individuals or groups like Rotary to mitigate challenges of that caliber.

The Rotary club of Nalumhnye says it is injecting a good amount of money to have an overhaul on the old man’s house.

The project is estimated to take close to 1 month.

Presiding over the launch, the District Gorverner, Rotarian Peace Taremwa thanked the Rotary club of Nalumunye for their act of ‘service above self’, “I want to thank the Rotary club of Nalumunye for the thoughtfulness of those in need, thank you for coming up with a decision to renovate Mzee Kyobe’s house. Mr. kyobe’s house had become old and they are fixing in new windows, re-roofing the house and plastering it, this is an act of selflessness.”

Under the leadership of President, Mukisa Philemon, the Rotary club of Nalumunye is among 400 Rotary Clubs in the country rendering relentless humanitarian services to Ugandans.

Chartered on 17th April 2020, the club has reached close to 3,000 Ugandans with services including the erection of a bus stand/shedd, medical camps, tree planting, donation of medical equipments, house refurbishment among others.
